It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas....

Soo my fellow bloggers how was your Christmas? What did you get? I had a wonderful time, just me and my partner this year and we started the day with Champers, Smoked Salmon and Scrambled Eggs...I made these even more luxurious by adding double cream. Delicious and a fantastic start to the day.

Delicious!

My new camera for blogging! Yes I know most professionals use a Cannon but I need something that is good and not too bulky for everyday use. Plus the benefits of having a professional cameraman as a boyfriend, I have access to the best cameras whenever I like.

All the Clarins. In desperate need of the beauty balm after the cold weather and indulgences this winter.

Spent most of yesterday playing XBOX games...this was soo much fun! Especially after a few glasses of fizz.

Anyone who is a frequent visitor of our house knows what fun we have at mini torments! And now season two has arrived!

My cat Inca going crazy over the Smoked Salmon.

These books are amazing..., I am feeling so inspired. Next year my blogging posts are going to be 'out there'.

I made a ginger glazed ham this year thanks to a recipe from Nigella it was truly divine accompanied by  maple syrup parsnips and minty peas. The following hours were spent in a a haze of merriment and  the predictable family calls (always a pleasure of course). I'm so looking forward to an amazing 2013!

Have a great Christmas guys!!!!

Psychoville

Who doesn't like a comedy? In England, specifically the North of the UK we like our humour a little darker and a little bit more local. I recently started re watching  'Psychoville' as first shown on our shores in 2009. How do I describe this show?  Here is a brief description:

'The series revolves around five different characters from different parts of England: David Sowerbutts (played by Pemberton), a serial killer-obsessed man-child who still lives with his mother Maureen (Shearsmith); Mr. Jelly (Shearsmith), an embittered one-handed children's entertainer; Oscar Lomax (Pemberton), a blind millionaire who collects stuffed toy animals; Joy Aston (French), a midwife who treats a practice doll as if it is her real child; and Robert Greenspan (Tompkins), a panto dwarf in love with his Snow White who believes he has the power of telekinesis. All five are connected by a mysterious blackmailer who has sent them a letter each with the message: "I know what you did". The series is named after the title given to The League of Gentlemenwhen the series was sold to Japan and Korea.[3]'

On second viewing...(this is a show you can always watch more than once) the characters have become my new style icons.

Maureen Sowerbutts: The Pastel Queen. Mix shades of peppermint and salmon with winter florals and the odd broach or two.

Mr Jelly: Alice in Wonderland rip off and I'm sure the inspiration behind Meadham Kirchhoff's fantasy inspired designs. Polka dots, face painting kit, stars and stripes and lashings of tartan.

Oscar Lomax: Millionaire Fashion Extraordinaire! Velvet Blazers, Large Sunglasses, Masculine Tailoring.

I don't know who to choose....but I do know I have my makeup kit at the ready.

Strike a Pose

Back in August I entered a competition in Vogue UK for a sneak peak at Topshop's Autumn/Winter12 campaign. I can't believe I actually managed to secure two tickets considering there were only 300 for both the London and Manchester events. This was my first proper 'I feel part of the front row' moment. There were make-overs galore, a fashion DJ, cocktails and champagne. Usually at these type of events the drinks staff can be rather stingy on top ups...but to be fair I managed to sneak at least 3 glasses of champers. The main reason for attending this event was the talk given from Ginnie Fraser British Vogue's retail editor. Embellishment and Manish tailoring seemed to be the order of the day..as she routed through a small rail of hand picked beauties. It was interesting to see such a magazine commentating on a brand that seems to have almost exploded into a full blown global phenomena. Celebrities, US store openings, the Queen of the UK high street. Where did it all go so right?

In fact talking of celebrities check out Kate Bosworth being unveiled in the Winter Wonderland video for Topshop. Who doesn't love a red dress for Christmas.

Thank you for curing me of my ridiculous obsession with love.

Working in retail is by no means easy and now the Christmas season is upon us no end seems in sight. I spent this weekend trying to stay as chilled out as possible. Friday I spent the evening at a fabulous Burlesque event at The Swan and two Necks courtesy of the lovely Simon and Charlotte Lock who spent quite the considerable penny on making this evening one to remember. I was truly amazed! On entering the pub, no old men already sozzled and stinking of fags but an exquisite decadent Moulin Rouge interior. I set up my stand in the back room with the other vintage traders who all seemed generally enthusiastic and happy to be part of such an amazing evening. Next came the dancers..I urge you too see these ladies...Cherryfox (my god this girl can sing), Kitty Kimono and Suzie Sequin,  cocktail cupcakes (tres amaze) and fashion show which went down a treat as did the odd beer or two. Some peeps really made the effort for the evening and I thoroughly enjoyed being part of such a cool event...one of which isn't really found in the area.

I also managed to pick up these amazing vintage glasses in the traders area what do you think?

I look almost intelligent!

Live for the moment or decisions decisions???

Its that time of year where our social calenders are brimming, there is not an alcohol free night, the nights draw in and we dream for the onset of snow. Its around this time I begin to start meticulously planning for next year, it tends to be the only thing that alleviates that post Christmas slump and the inevitable holiday weight gain. But I ask you is it best to plan or just live for the moment?

My musts or probably just lusts for next year....

Begin writing submissions for Vintage Life magazine;

Attend as many vintage fairs and charity shops as possible. These two are on my must lists Crikey it's Vintage in Exeter and Chic Vintage Fair in Clitheroe.

Fall a little bit more in love with good old blighty with long weekends away in a Vintage Caravan in an undiscovered part of the British Riviera in Cornwall and sip on fashion cocktails at the Hotel Missoni in Edinburgh

A couple of European City breaks; drinking Belgian beer and strutting down the Kammenstraat in Antwerp and eating at Le Jules Verne after a hard day thrift shopping in Paris.

If music is the source of happiness I'd be happy dancing the night away in Cafe del Mar Ibiza or sinking a cold beer in a hot tub at Iceland Airwaves in Reykjavik.

I hope 2013 rocks for all the right reasons.
